Welcome to Birding for Beginners

The aim of this blog is to help people who are new to birding get started with what is a fascinating pastime which can last a lifetime.  It is quite surprising how few people even notice the birds around them nevermind being able to identify them.  This blog will give you some pointers about what to look for and where to look as well as many other interesting facts about the many different bird species.

The best thing about watching birds is that there are lots of them and they are all around us, and even common birds are quite beautiful with their own interesting characteristics.  For example, did you know that not all Blackbirds are black, that Robins are very aggressive and kill other birds or that each year hundreds of thousands of birds fly thousands of miles to be in our country?

All these things will become evident as you look through the posts in this blog, but for now we'll start by having a look at some of the main categories of birds according to where you will find them.
  • Garden Birds
  • Wetland Birds
  • Wading and Shoreline Birds
  • Seabirds
  • Mountain and Moorland Birds
  • Farmland Birds
  • Birds of Prey
